The Breakdown: Fox Sunday in 2021-22 (The Simpsons, The Great North, Bob's Burgers and more!)

It's time for a journey through the Fox Sunday schedule in 2021-22...

The Fox cartoons performed a little better in the fall, in large part because the lineup had an extra NFL lead-out week (6 out of 9 total) compared with last year. The Great North stuck out here as a notable improvement on last year's Bless the Harts.

In the winter, the staples were up again, once again getting some help from post-football episodes, but The Great North was not as bad as it looks here because of its post-NFL previews a year ago.

After all the swingy numbers in the fall and winter, we arrived in the spring with no more football mucking things up, and the numbers quickly became quite boring. All four shows were very close to even with last year's Plus results.

The Simpsons: The growth here pretty much stems from the fact that it had an extra football lead-out episode in the fall, plus a stronger episode to start the winter (an indirect lead-out via Next Level Chef). It was pretty close to even in Plus in the other comparisons. The non-football episodes in the fall looked pretty good but I'll stick with Grade: B.

The Great North: Fox hasn't found a fourth comedy on the level of American Dad! or The Cleveland Show yet, but it seems like they've at least gotten one that's more promising than Bless the Harts. It had much bigger post-NFL episodes last winter but it seemed a little weaker across the regular episodes as well. Grade: C+.

Bob's Burgers: Like with The Simpsons, you could make the case for a B+ because some of the non-football episodes in the fall/winter looked pretty good, but once we got to the spring (generally the cleanest comparisons) it was even to slightly down. So Grade: B.

Family Guy: And I would echo the same line for Family Guy, which had a big indirect post-NFL ep last winter and nothing like that this year and still managed to break even. Overall, the theme is these shows seem to have leveled off after some disturbing drops in the previous couple seasons. Grade: B.

The names in this last table link to the shows' War of 18-49 pages. Links with an asterisk(*) have been updated with the new info. Updates to younger shows will come later in the summer.
