The Top 10 TV Ratings Moments of 2019

It's time for my tenth annual look back at the year's top 10 moments in TV ratings! As always, the criteria are pretty subjective, but I go for a blend of 1) relatively isolated incidents that are impressive for their sheer enormity/cultural impact and 2) moments that exemplify much larger trends in TV this year. Please let me know about my most egregious rankings and omissions.

Spotted Ratings, Wednesday 8/28/19

FINALS UPDATE: Single Parents (R) (0.4) and Celebrity Family Feud (R) (0.4) adjusted down.

Spotted Ratings, Wednesday 8/21/19

WHAT MATTERS:

• Week three brought another multiple-tenth drop for BH90210 (0.8), though it once again edged its MasterChef lead-in (0.7) in the demo.

• The Big Brother uptick on Sunday continued to Wednesday (1.3), where it tied its season high again and was up by 0.2 from last Wednesday. NBC was even with America's Got Talent (1.1) and Songland (0.7), while Hollywood Game Night (0.4) got even lower in a move to Wednesday 10/9c (tying last week's The InBetween finale).

• And the CW's Hypnotize Me (0.2) is looking to join Pandora as a second CDub original to hit 0.2 this week after multiple episodes at 0.1.

Spotted Ratings, Wednesday 8/14/19

FINALS UPDATE: Big Brother (1.1) and BH90210 (1.0) adjusted up.

WHAT MATTERS:

• BH90210's run as a sensation was short-lived, as it took a whooping 40% week two drop to a 0.9 in week two. It barely edged its MasterChef lead-in (0.8) in adults 18-49, and again went well behind it in adults 18-34 (0.3 vs. 0.5).

• America's Got Talent (1.1) began its Wednesday run, down around 25% from the 1.5 with which it opened on Wednesday last year (similar to its Tuesday declines this season). It led into the original return of Songland (0.7) at 9/8c, but The InBetween (0.4) couldn't benefit at 10/9c.
  

• Elsewhere, Big Brother (1.0) was down a notch in a move to the 8/7c hour, while Card Sharks (0.5) and Match Game (0.5) finished their runs even with last week.

FINALS UPDATE: Bulletproof (0.1) adjusted down.

WHAT MATTERS:

• Fox got a strong start from its revival BH90210 (1.5). It's one of the biggest premieres for a summer scripted series on record, scoring roughly the same Plus as the Under the Dome premiere back in summer 2013. The lead-out juice also helped lift MasterChef to its first 0.9 of the season.

• The CW launched a new original lineup with drama Bulletproof (0.2) and reality Hypnotize Me (0.1), scoring pretty standard ratings for the netlet in the summer. The originals on ABC (0.6/0.5/0.5), CBS (0.5/1.1) and The InBetween (0.4) all matched last week.
