Spotted Ratings, Sunday 4/21/13

WHAT MATTERS:
  • ABC's Once Upon a Time returned from hiatus at yet another new low point, and it failed to adjust up to tie the low in finals. Then ABC trotted out another Hallmark Hall of Fame movie, Remember Sunday, which was down three tenths from the year-ago movie but up a couple notches from the 1.1 for the last HHOF in late January. While a 1.3 might seem like merely filler-type numbers, keep in mind we're now at a point where this is not really any different from the normal 9:00-11:00 dramas, which hit 1.5/1.0 when they last aired on March 31.
  • CBS was also all original and stronger than usual at 7:00 with 60 Minutes, which almost certainly got a boost from Boston coverage. Everything else looked pretty normal.
  • On cable, Game of Thrones (2.6) scored another series high, while Vikings (1.4) took its own upswing, further affirming this show's strong audience independent of its old The Bible lead-in.

Spotted Ratings, Sunday 1/27/13

WHAT MATTERS:
  • A relatively uncompetitive Sunday was led by NBC's coverage of the Pro Bowl, which ended up 7% below last year's game. As last year with the Pro Bowl, it peaked at the beginning of the game (4.5 at 8:00, 4.3 at 8:30) and then saw people dribble away.
  • ABC aired another Hallmark Hall of Fame movie. The Makeover was easily the franchise's weakest entrant in over a year and down 28% from the same night last year (though that one had an original Once Upon a Time leading in).
  • Despite what should've been pretty favorable competition, the originals on CBS and Fox were generally below average. The Good Wife and The Cleveland Show were particular ugly spots, each hitting series lows.

Spotted Ratings, Sunday 4/22/12

WHAT MATTERS:
  • A couple networks went with special programming as ABC had their third Hallmark Hall of Fame movie, Firelight, which pulled ABC's best-yet Hallmark ratings. Fox went with the pilots of Married... with Children and The Simpsons into their 25th Anniversary Special. Both nets did worse than original entertainment stuff would have, but they were OK options for the last pre-sweeps Sunday.
  • The leftover entertainment options were mostly unscathed, relatively speaking. Nobody had a big spike against all the special programming either, but Once Upon a Time was back up to the 3.0 threshold. NYC 22 dropped just a tick in week two, but it needed something far better given last week's start.

Spotted Ratings, Sunday 11/27/11

WHAT MATTERS:
  • ABC's Once Upon a Time returned from a week off and Truly topped the night among entertainment programs (it was a bit behind football-fueled 60 Minutes in raw numbers). It was still down double-digits from its relatively steady pre-hiatus levels.
  • It wasn't alone in dropping off, as every single Fox comedy also hit a new season low, and most of them by multiple tenths. The bottom definitely fell out for Allen Gregory, which does not necessarily seem a cinch to air its last two episodes any more.
  • The Hallmark Hall of Fame franchise made its debut on ABC with Mitch Albom's Have a Little Faith, which only got around half of the typical numbers for the franchise on CBS at this time of year.
