FINALS UPDATE: The Goldbergs (R) (0.6) and The Goldbergs (R) (0.5) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:
WHAT MATTERS:
- In its second episode on Wednesday, World of Dance (1.1) was up a tenth in both preliminary hours (1.0/1.2). That pulled it into second place at 8/7c, where MasterChef (0.9) was down a notch as its teammate 24 Hours to Hell and Back was in repeat mode (0.7). Big Brother (1.5), Reverie (0.4) and the CW dramas (0.2/0.3) all matched last week.

FINALS UPDATE: American Housewife (R) (0.5) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:
WHAT MATTERS:
- World of Dance (1.0) finally made its long-anticipated move to Wednesday, where it was a couple tenths behind what it had been doing on Tuesday after America's Got Talent. It was no help to Reverie, which made it five weeks in a row at 0.4.
- After holding up OK in week two, it was a rough week three for CBS' TKO: Total Knock Out (0.6); it was down two tenths while its lead-in Big Brother (1.5) was actually up. On Fox, 24 Hours to Hell and Back (0.9) inched down to finish behind its MasterChef lead-in (1.0).
- The CW introduced Kristin Kreuk drama Burden of Truth (0.2), which had a few more total viewers but a lower demo than lead-out The Originals (0.3).

WHAT MATTERS:
- Week two for CBS' TKO: Total Knock Out (0.8) was down a tenth from last week, as were its lead-in Big Brother (1.4) and lead-out, the series finale of Code Black (0.7). Meanwhile, some viewers came back to the Fox duo of MasterChef (1.0) and 24 Hours to Hell and Back (1.0), which were both up a notch.
- The ESPY Awards (0.9/0.9/0.8) ceremony took its sharpest decline on ABC, dropping about a third from last year's 1.4. The show has gone from a 2.2 in its ABC debut three years ago to fractional in 2018.

FINALS UPDATE: Shark Tank (R) (0.6) and The Originals (0.3) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:
WHAT MATTERS:
- CBS' relentlessly promoted Kevin Hart series TKO: Total Knock Out opened with a 0.9, 60% of its lead-in from Big Brother (1.5). That's certainly no better than where last year's unscripted Big Bro lead-out Candy Crush started last year (1.1 out of a 1.8), and a good bit less impressive than the 1.2 for Beat Shazam (another summer series hosted by a movie star) last summer. It was in a three-way tie for the lead at 9/8c with the second half of an America's Got Talent recap special (0.9) and 24 Hours to Hell and Back (0.9). At 10/9c, Code Black (0.8) bounced back to a high-end rating after facing the 4th of July last week.
- Fox took a hit on a busy night for unscripted programming, with both MasterChef (0.9) and the aforementioned 24 Hours (0.9) dropping two tenths. The CW's The Originals was down to 0.2 with its first original in three weeks.

FINALS UPDATE: MasterChef (1.0) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:
WHAT MATTERS:
- Gordon Ramsay's MasterChef (0.9) and 24 Hours to Hell and Back (1.0) were both down a tenth in their second week together. That makes 24 Hours an even bigger win when compared with last year's The F Word, as that show collapsed to a 0.7 in its second week.
- NBC began preparing for World of Dance's late July move to Wednesday with two hours of repeats (0.5/0.5). That was unwelcome news for Reverie (0.4), which went another tenth lower in week four. The other two drama originals Code Black (0.7) and The Originals (0.3) were both steady.

FINALS UPDATE: Shark Tank (R) (0.5) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:
WHAT MATTERS:
- Fox added another entry to the Gordon Ramsay portfolio with a nice premiere for 24 Hours to Hell and Back (1.1), up a tenth from its lead-in from MasterChef (1.0). That's also up a tenth from where last year's Ramsay newbie The F Word started (1.0 leading out of a 1.1 MasterChef).
- On NBC, it was the last Wednesday airing for American Ninja Warrior (1.0/1.1), which could only manage a tie head-to-head with Fox and was actually down from last week when it was facing the NBA Finals. Reverie held onto a 0.5 at 10/9c.
- CBS' Code Black (0.7) and CW's The Originals (0.3) both got back the tenth they lost against the NBA last week, while the ABC comedy repeats returned (0.7/0.7/0.7/0.6) and looked a little better than two weeks ago.

FINALS UPDATE: NBA Finals (6.4, +1.2) and American Ninja Warrior (1.2) adjusted up while Jimmy Kimmel Live: Game Night (1.1, -1.5) and NBA Countdown (1.7, -0.9) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:
WHAT MATTERS:
- ABC dominated with Game 3 of the NBA Finals (4.8/5.6), with the preliminary hours this time down a little over 10% year-to-year but up a teeny bit vs. Game 1 on Thursday. The nightmare scenario for ABC execs (a four-game sweep) is still alive, and the series could be over as early as Friday.
- Unlike on the first two NBA nights, there were some actual important pieces of entertainment programming, and they were all down at least a little bit. NBC's American Ninja Warrior (1.1/1.2) held up decently while 10/9c drama newbie Reverie (0.5) lost a tenth in week two.
- Fox's MasterChef (0.9/0.9) was also down (especially in the 9:00 hour when facing the actual game), CBS' Code Black (0.6) inched down, and the CW's The Originals fell to its first 0.2 of the season.

FINALS UPDATE: MasterChef (1.0) and MasterChef (1.2) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:
WHAT MATTERS:
- NBC's summer staple American Ninja Warrior (1.2) began a two-week stop on Wednesday before returning to its usual Monday slot. It was down two tenths vs. last year's Monday premiere; if it can uptick in the return to Monday (which is what happened when it did this in 2016), all will be well.
- But the news was rougher at 10/9c as summer drama Reverie opened with just a 0.6 at 10/9c. That's a much weaker start than last year's Midnight, Texas, which started at 0.9 and actually never went below 0.6.
- Ninja Warrior won the head-to-head against the return of Fox's MasterChef (0.9/1.1). It was down two tenths year-to-year if you just compare the 8/7c hour year-to-year, but the 1.0 average for the night would be down one tenth.
- And despite its recent cancellation, Code Black (0.7/0.7) had another decent showing with two originals from 9:00 to 11:00.
