It's time for a journey through the ABC Friday schedule in 2020-21...

ABC stuck with its spring 2020 lineup of Shark Tank and two hours of 20/20 throughout the 2020-21 season. When compared with last year's 8/7c comedy hour, Shark Tank produced massive gains, and 20/20 was up noticeably as well. Shark Tank consistently set records for the 8/7c hour in the Plus era since the other comparable Shark Tank seasons had aired at 9/8c.

Shark Tank followed up its solid fall with a somewhat noticeable winter bounce, posting several 0.8's in January and into early February: some of the strongest episodes in the history of the series in Plus. 20/20 perked up quite a bit as well after the new year, with a bunch of high 0.6's in the winter period.

The ratings declined in the spring, but Shark Tank still impressively managed to edge the CVPlus of the big post-lockdown episodes from spring 2020.

Shark Tank: One thing that should now be clear is that this show just belongs on Friday. After a rather up-and-down history on Sunday, this season zoomed back up to levels that would be right at home during the show's Friday heyday in the mid-2010s. The winter bounce and actually topping the lockdown episodes were both really nice accomplishments. Grade: A-.
20/20: You can definitely make the case that this show was "Truly" only about break-even, since it was break-even in the spring and had massive lead-in upgrades in the other two periods. But I'm gonna be a little kinder since, like with Shark Tank, this season's Plus ranked on the high end historically. This is about the Plus 20/20 was posting when it followed the aforementioned peak Shark Tank seasons circa 2015. Grade: B+.
