WHAT MATTERS:
- NBC's midseason comedy predicament got even more dire with the premiere of Champions, as the newbie joined the NBC lineup with a rough 0.7 rating at 9:30/8:30c. It had little help from Will and Grace, which dipped to another new low at 9/8c. The other two hours were a bit better for NBC as Superstore (1.0) recovered a tenth at 8/7c and Chicago Fire (1.2) benefited from its crossover with Chicago PD.
- Elsewhere, TGIT (1.7/1.1/0.9) took a tumble after last week's crossover, and Gotham fell to its first 0.7 on Fox. However, the CBS lineup had a decent second week after the Olympics as The Big Bang Theory (2.6) recovered by a notch, as did Life in Pieces (1.2) and S.W.A.T. (0.9). Young Sheldon (2.1) and Mom (1.5) were even.
