Let's take a look at the 2014-15 season (the fifth overall) of The Walking Dead on AMC.

Rating the Ratings: The great TV ratings anomaly of this generation did it again, opening the fall with yet another new series high and growing in raw numbers for both the fall and spring seasons, putting it another order of magnitude ahead of all modern entertainment TV. The growth was in the single digits early in the fall, but the second half of the fall season held up incredibly well, and the last three points were all up at least 20% year-to-year.

By TWD's unfathomable standards, the spring return was kind of a stumble. Opposite the Grammy Awards, the 7.98 spring premiere was the series' first ever down year-to-year point, and then its 6.22 the next week was down 9% y2y against the huge SNL40 special. However, the Dead stormed back, picking up 1.3 rating points in the next two weeks, and the last six episodes were all up year-to-year. The growth slowed again at the end of the season, and the 8.16 season finale was only up 2%, so it's certainly questionable whether it can do this again. But for now, the increased struggles for most of TWD's cable peers make these trends all the more ridiculous. Grade: A.

Here's the now updated War of 18-49 post for The Walking Dead.
