2015 Upfront Answers, The CW

Last week, I asked "Upfront Questions" to preview each network's fall 2015 schedule. With the schedule now official, here are the "Upfront Answers"!

CW's upfront previews: True Power Rankings | Upfront Questions

Other Upfront Answers: NBC | Fox | ABC | CBS | CW

MONDAY

Fall 2015 Schedule
8-9 P.M. — CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND
9-10 P.M. — Jane the Virgin

My Question: Will a light newbie slate keep Monday intact?

Nope, because Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, the one show that seemingly fit as a Monday option, will be ready for the fall. It seems like a natural pairing with Jane.

TUESDAY

Fall 2015 Schedule
8-9 P.M. — The Flash
9-10. PM. — iZombie

My Question: Is the CW just biding time in the post-Flash slot before another DC series arrives?

Sure looks that way. As of the CW previews in the last couple weeks, I was staunchly in favor of giving iZombie another run in a good slot. But the show has looked increasingly shaky in the second half of the season. So in general, I'd rather see a new show here. But there is no new show to be had, so it'll do.

WEDNESDAY

Fall 2015 Schedule
8-9 P.M. — Arrow
9-10 P.M. — Supernatural

My Question: Will Arrow lead into a very old show, a very new show, or something in between?

Very old! The CW indeed didn't put a new show after either of its only two good lead-ins. I'm pretty surprised Cordon couldn't make the fall cut. But if the network has only one newbie and it's clearly a heavily female-skewing one, bringing this pairing back makes sense.

THURSDAY

Fall 2015 Schedule
8-9 P.M. — The Vampire Diaries
9-10 P.M. — The Originals

My Question: What can the CW pair with an already fading The Vampire Diaries that is losing its lead actress?

I really liked this idea before the CW made its pickups, and I'm glad that a female-skewing newbie was ready so that it could happen. The shows are just too questionable right now to be used as lead-ins into shows with upside.

FRIDAY

Fall 2015 Schedule
8-9 P.M. — Reign
9-10 P.M. — America's Next Top Model

My Question: Will a "big eight" contender end up on Friday in the fall?

Nope. And in fact, Reign beats out The 100 for the Friday slot. Perhaps this happened because Reign is getting 22 episodes again, or maybe it's just a bone thrown to CBS Studios.

GENERAL IMPRESSIONS

I was never gonna be crazy about a CW sked that had only one newbie. It seemed to be pointing that way when the Crazy Ex-Girlfriend pickup was announced, but then the network threw a curveball by getting Crazy ready for fall and holding its longtime development leader Cordon to midseason.

They obviously know a lot more about the new shows than I do. If these are the specific shows that they deem the best options for the fall, I've got no issues with the arrangement. Seems correct.
