Spotted Ratings, Wednesday 5/14/14

WHAT MATTERS:
  • Almost everything on Wednesday wrapped up the season's penultimate sweeps week even or up:
    • After a couple really soft weeks, ABC finally got three-tenth rallies from The Middle (1.9), the final Suburgatory (1.6) and the beginning of Modern Family's wedding two-parter (3.1);
    • CBS' Survivor (2.6) adjusted up to a new season high, while the season finale of Criminal Minds (2.7) had its best rating since early February (and just a tenth below last year's finale).
    • Even American Idol (2.1) perked up a bit, so maybe people actually cared about it being the 500th episode.
    • And Arrow (0.9) got a finals uptick, bringing it to even with last year's finale.

Great performances from Survivor and Criminal Minds. Happy to see Criminal Minds finish its season on a high note.

ABC has gotta be disappointed in the Nashville finale. Down 32% year to year with much less competition. Criminal Minds (2.8) replaced with CSI (1.5) and Chicago Fire (1.7), replaced by Chicago PD (1.6).

My hope is that the finale can hit a 2.8 to end with Survivor's highest rating of 2013-14 and be up y2y for the finale. My real hope, though, is a return to the 3's, but I will save that for the premiere of Survivor:Legends (season 30 next spring).

Yes, unless the three hours next Wednesday average roughly a 2.1 or lower.
