Question Two, Tuesday 2/19/13: Can the CW Change its Tuesday Culture?

Doubleheader day! Play the Body of Proof game now!

The CW premieres its fifth and final new drama of the season tonight, a ridiculous show scheduled ridiculously called Cult. In Hart of Dixie it will have a lead-in both weak and wildly incompatible, and the show failed to launch a much more similar show (Emily Owens M.D.) this fall. But Cult seems a little more in line with what's working on the CDub of late, and it's led by a familiar face from The Vampire Diaries. Can the CW change its Tuesday Culture? That's Question Two for Tuesday, February 19, 2013.

Recent CW Drama Premieres
1.2 (Hellcats, 9/8/10)
1.4 (Nikita, 9/9/10)
1.2 (Ringer, 9/13/11)
1.3 (The Secret Circle, 9/15/11)
0.8 (Hart of Dixie, 9/26/11)
1.3 (Arrow, 10/10/12)
1.2 (Beauty and the Beast, 10/11/12)
0.5 (Emily Owens M.D., 10/16/12)
0.6 (The Carrie Diaries, 1/14/13)

Gun to my head, I would say this show isn't going to work, but for some reason I'm not as convinced as I probably should be. I was more sure about previous occupant Emily Owens M.D., which just looked like a far inferior version of a lead-in that already had modest ratings. This show is more of a wild card. Maybe there are some people that would actually willfully show up for this. Maybe not, and the CW is trying to tell us something by putting it in such a bad situation. Flopping hard is probably more likely than sleeper success, but neither one seems inconceivable.

Over/Under: 0.55.

I agree with what you have written so much. I should be 100% convinced that it is dead, but I am not as much convinced as I feel I should be. I am going with a 0.6 for the premiere but it could be a 0.4 and I would not be shocked. Still, over.

Tough. So tough. I can't help but think that that number is just the tiniest bit too pessimistic, but that's what I thought about the similarly "batshit-bad" Zero Hour, and you more or less hit the nail on the head there (and I paid dearly for my optimism).

For now, over. But I will tempt fate and say I think it will be close...

Not really heard anything positive about it. Too crazy, odd lead-in, it's not going to work overall and I doubt it works even tonight. Under.

Over, perhaps optimistically. I love the promos and key art, and I think the premise is insane enough to stand out.

Yeah this one is very tough but I'm guessing around 0.6 or 0.7 so I'm gonna say Over.

Over, but then this is the CW so who ever knows

I think it's funny that you picked the same Line for Cult as you did for Emily Owens MD even though you have different reasons.

Cult is going to used as an example of show quality versus scheduling no matter how well or poorly it does. It feels weird to say, but if The CW wanted this show to work it would have launched it on Fridays: it'd have the genre audience to itself for a few weeks until Grimm returns, and Nikita matches more tonally than Hart of Dixie. What's making me a slight pessimist for tonight here is how The CW's shows seem to be taking some downticks lately; had Cult debuted in January I'd be a buyer instead with this Line.

Under.

Over.
It is premiere after all.

I believe it was originally intended for Friday before Emily Owens failed, and they're still scheduled to air Cult repeats on Fridays at 9/8c for almost all its run.

It's funny. This was THE show that I kept hearing about right after upfronts, but once I heard it was being pushed to mid-season I didn't hear much about it anymore.

Over. I don't follow the CW, but I think at least half of whoever's watching Arrow will probably willfully show up for this.

Hmm, I don't think my guess ever went through. Perhaps it did? Either way, I said Over (0.6).

Under, no way it'll improve on Hart of Dixie
