First Two Weeks, Emily Owens M.D.

WEEK ONE
Compared to the low-1's premieres of the CW's other fall dramas, Emily Owens M.D. looked like rather disastrous. It managed just a 0.5 demo against a presidential debate simulcast on the big four. The only qualifiers worth mentioning are that the show didn't have much of a lead-in (Hart of Dixie had a 0.6) and it actually built by a bit from Hart in total viewership.

WEEK TWO
But like the other show that premiered against a debate, Beauty and the Beast, the week two drop was pretty severe. Emily dropped by (a heavily rounded) 40% to a 0.3 demo and dropped by a more significant amount from Hart of Dixie (now at 0.5). Only Nikita performed that poorly on the CW schedule last week.

PROGNOSIS
Emily Owens M.D. is certainly not going to be a long term option for the network. It's a Cancel, and it seems unlikely to get any episodes beyond the initial order. But how much it actually airs is a legit question. If Hart of Dixie were a big lead-in, and if it were compatible with anything else on the CW schedule, I'd recommend getting a repeat of something into this slot within a few weeks. But neither of those things are true, so Emily may linger, The LA Complex-style.

"First Two Weeks" is my look at... the first two weeks of a new scripted broadcast show's ratings. I also line up all of the premiere and week two drop numbers together.
