Rating the Ratings: House was a big enough show in its heyday that it could endure two down 25%+ seasons in three years. Not many shows can say that. But three in four years was too much to ask. In 2011-12, House wasn't even a hit, and it wasn't that close. The season started quite promisingly with a 3.9 demo on premiere night, down just 7% from the year-ago premiere. But it went off the rails immediately, finishing down by 20%+ year-to-year almost every week thereafter. Unlike Desperate Housewives, a fellow former megahit in its final season, House didn't show much of a pulse in the back half of the season, though The Voice's presence on Monday may have helped with that. Despite a pretty nice spike relative to the back half of the season, the series finale's 2.9 demo was still not even within single digits of the prior season's finale. I'm sure Fox would've liked another season out of House if only because of their problems finding dramas these days, but it looks like it was the right call to say goodbye. All indications were a season nine would've gotten even uglier. Grade: D-.

Here's the now updated War of 18-49 post for House.
