Schedule Five-Spot, WE 3/18/12 - Luck, The Good Wife, Dallas, Grimm, Jersey Shore

Here's the Schedule Five-Spot for the week ending March 18, 2012:

Luck - In one of the season's more bizarre stories, HBO's Luck is suddenly done for after a third horse died during production of the racing drama. This happened early in the production of season two, and the show will conclude airing at the end of its first season on Sunday. Despite critical acclaim, the show was a huge ratings disaster, frequently coming in below the 500,000 viewer and 0.2 demo thresholds.

CBS Renewals - CBS is really TV's only network with a deep enough roster to be able to renew 18 things at once, and that's what they did last week. The only surprise from a ratings standpoint was The Good Wife, but that was no surprise from a feel-which-way-the-wind-is-blowing standpoint. The bubble pretty much remains CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, Rules of Engagement and Rob. I put the over/under on renewals out of that bunch plus upcoming NYC 22 at 1.5.

Summer Skeds - TNT's summer lineup notably features a Rizzoli & Isles and Franklin & Bash lineup on Tuesday, plus newbie Dallas on Wednesday. NBC is going largely original on Thursday with sophomore reality Love in the Wild plus newbie Saving Hope. ABC Family puts Bunheads after Secret Life on Mondays while Baby Daddy and Beverly Hills Nannies are on Wendesdays this summer. And Showtime's Dexter and Homeland are back September 30.

Grimm - When rumor spread of NBC's Grimm renewal, I thought there may be an outpouring of early renewals like on CBS. For now, though, Grimm stands alone as its net's only show renewed for 2012-13. If they took bets on this kind of thing in Vegas, Grimm probably would've been one of the preseason long-shots to get renewed at all, much less this early, but the show has managed to continue pulling pretty decent mid-1 demos on Friday.

Jersey Shore - No, America, it's not dead yet. Jersey Shore will be back for a sixth season. Pretty much all anyone talked about today was its declining ratings, and that's legit; this'll be the first down year-to-year season in Shore history, and it'll be down quite a bit. I doubt there's really any reversing that trend at this point. But it must be said that it's still, for now anyway, one of the strongest 10/9c shows on all of TV. We're still far from cancel territory.

The Five-Spots are my recaps of what aired, what got renewed/cancelled and what rated well or poorly last week in TV. For more Five-Spots, see the Index.
