Scheduling Five-Spot, WE 4/3/11 - Amazing Race/Undercover Boss, Justified/Archer, Mad Men, Off Their Rockers, Mobbed

Didn't get the last two Five-Spots done last week due to health issues. Slowly getting back to full speed, and should definitely have a full trio this week with a lot going on. Here's your Scheduling Five-Spot for the week ending April 3, 2011:

The Amazing Race/Undercover Boss - CBS has renewed reality properties The Amazing Race and Undercover Boss for next season. The Race has been on Sunday nights for over five years now, but it was last year's breakout performance of Boss post-Super Bowl (along with this season's move of CSI: Miami to the evening) that finally got CBS back in the mix on previously troublesome Sunday. Race has been off to a rough start this spring, averaging just a 2.7 demo, but it's on the upswing. Boss's 2010-11 eps have averaged a 3.2 demo, down from last year but still rock solid.

Justified/Archer - Also scoring renewals are FX drama Justified and animated comedy Archer, both for third seasons. Justified has not exactly broken out in season two the way Sons of Anarchy did in 2009, but its upper-0 demos still look pretty good stacked up against recent FX newbies like Terriers and Lights Out (both of which were consistently south of 0.5). Archer's averaging at 0.53 in season 2 so far this season, just about even with its first season average.

Mad Men - The three-time Emmy winner for Outstanding Drama Series will be back for at least two more seasons after AMC and creator Matt Weiner finally came to terms following a pretty public negotiation. The official renewal was just for the two years, but with Weiner locked in for three, the seventh season seems an inevitability. Weiner's also stated he plans on that seventh season being the show's last. Though the show's ratings have never been too impressive, especially compared to recent AMC newbie The Walking Dead, the piles of awards have helped put AMC on the map.

Betty White's Off Their Rockers - If this March 31 announcement had come a day later, I would've totally bought it as an April Fool's joke. Apparently it isn't. NBC's ordered twelve half-hour episodes of a hidden camera show hosted and exec produced by the legendary Betty White. It has something to do with old folks playing pranks on young folks.

Mobbed - Less than twenty-four hours after Mobbed pulled a 3.8 demo following American Idol (marking the best retention percentage for any post-Idol show this season and the second-best raw numbers), Fox greenlit an eight-episode series order for the Howie Mandel-hosted show inspired by the flash mob craze in the world of viral video.

More Five-Spots in the Index.
