Demos Year-to-Year, November Sweeps 2010 Week Two Recap

Top 5 year-to-year show losers
1. CSI: NY (F9pm vs. W10pm) -47%
2. Lie to Me -40%
3. 20/20 -39%
4. One Tree Hill (T8pm vs. M8pm) -38%
5. The Biggest Loser -37%

Gotta love when we get to take a shot at each of the big 5 networks, as is the case on our first list. OK, maybe not; after all, the Friday move explains a lot of CSI: NY's drop, and 20/20 has actually gotten a little healthier lately with the Primetime: What Would You Do? lead-in. It's just that it took a big drop from a huge result on the year-ago Friday, which featured an interview with Rihanna about Chris Brown. Lie to Me's 40% drop can be attributed in large part to the major year-to-year drop of lead-in House, down 30% and just barely missing this list. Still, Lie to Me's retention out of the House lead-in is weaker, now below 50%. As for One Tree Hill, having to face women 18-34 monster Glee each week seems to be taking its toll.  Then there's The Biggest Loser, one of the most consistent shows of the last few years that has all of a sudden completely tanked. No real excuses for that one.

Top 5 year-to-year show gainers
1. American Dad! (Su9:30pm vs. Su7:30pm) +45%
2. Glee (T8pm vs. W9pm) +35%
3. Dancing with the Stars (Mon.) +18%
4. Private Practice +15%
5. Fringe +6%

American Dad! looks good because it was in its regular timeslot rather than at 7:30 as it was last year. Glee and Dancing with the Stars have both been big growers all fall. Private Practice had a well above average week thanks to a heavily and well-promoted storyline. Fringe actually had a pretty bad result, thrown on the air thanks to a less-than-full-length World Series, but it was also in that situation last year and managed to hold up slightly better this time around.

Top 5 year-to-year timeslot losers
1. School Pride vs. Law & Order (NBC, Friday 8-9pm) -65%
2. Grey's Anatomy (R) vs. Flashforward (ABC, Thursday 8-9pm) -54%
3. The Defenders vs. CSI: NY (CBS, Wednesday 10-11pm) -53%
4. No Ordinary Family vs. V (ABC, Tuesday 8-9pm) -42%
5. Lie to Me (Fox, Monday 9-10pm) -40%

School Pride remains a complete disaster. ABC gives up in the Thursday 8:00 hour for another week, and they'll run one more Grey's repeat tonight before heading over to holiday specials here. Back-nined The Defenders remains nowhere close to the year-ago CSI: NY, which was still potent at the time. No Ordinary Family lags behind V, which still looked like a potential big hit back then. And we already talked Lie to Me.

Top 5 year-to-year timeslot gainers
1. Supernatural vs. America's Next Top Model (R) (The CW, Friday 9-10pm) +120%
2. Hellcats vs. The Vampire Diaries (R) (The CW, Wednesday 9-10pm) +80%
3. Undercover Boss vs. Three Rivers (CBS, Sunday 9-10pm) +61%
4. Primetime: WWYD? vs. Ugly Betty (ABC, Friday 9-10pm) +50%
5. Survivor vs. Old Christine/Gary Unmarried (CBS, Wednesday 8-9pm) +42%

Even though beating up on year-ago reruns isn't that huge of an achievement, credit the CDub for actually programming ten original hours a week compared to the eight they had at this time last year. It was actually not a very good week for either Undercover Boss or Survivor (their numbers on this list were +88% and +85% respectively last week), but both remain far enough ahead of the weak options CBS programmed last year to stay on board. And ABC's Primetime: What Would You Do? is still a great Friday option.

Here are this week's daily posts:
Thursday | Friday | Sunday | Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday

And here's the week two recap from November 2009.
